Arsenal duo Wilshere and Gibbs doubtful for Dortmund clash, reveals Wenger

The 21-year-old playmaker missed Saturday's win over Liverpool with an ankle injury, while the left-back was substituted in the second half after suffering a calf injury
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has revealed that both Jack Wilshere and Kieran Gibbs are doubts to face Borussia Dortmund in Wednesday's Champions League clash.

Wilshere suffered a recurrence of his long-running ankle problems prior to the Gunners' 2-0 win over Liverpool, thus missing the match, while Gibbs was substituted in the 78th minute with a calf injury.

Wenger remains in the dark over the severity of the two players' injuries, and admitted he was unsure if the duo would be fit for the club's visit to Signal Iduna Park.

“Jack has an inflamed ankle,” Wenger told reporters. “Will he be available for Wednesday? I do not know. We will have to wait until Monday to see.

“Gibbs has a calf problem. I don't know exactly how bad it is.”

Arsenal moved five points clear at the top of the Premier League table with the victory over Liverpool, and Wenger was delighted with the manner of the performance following defeats to Dortmund and Chelsea.

“We needed to respond [against Liverpool],” Wenger added.

“After the Chelsea game, it was a disappointment and we had to convince people that we could we win these big games and to win it in a convincing way is even more important.”
