Blackburn Rovers looking to beat Juventus to signature of Roma’s Mirko Vucinic - report

Rovers are reportedly hoping to pip the Italian giants to the signing of the Montenegro striker for £10 million, beating off competition from Europe’s top clubs

Steve Kean is to match Juventus’ €11.5 million bid to bring Mirko Vucinic to Blackburn Rovers, after Italian side Roma put the 27-year-old striker up for sale, according to The Mirror.

After impressive performances for both club and country, Vucinic has gained interest from some of Europe’s top clubs over the last few years, and the Ewood Park boss has reportedly been tracking the player for some time.

Now Roma have put the player up for sale, it has sparked a bidding war between Blackburn and Juve, while Tottenham are also reportedly interested in the striker.

The player is reported as seeing the amount of money as the key to which club he chooses, so Kean hopes to out-bid the Italian side who failed to gain European football this season.

Kean is set to meet with the Indian owners of the club to look at his list of potential targets before he can start spending his €23m transfer kitty.

His funds have also been bolstered by the sale of defender Phil Jones to Manchester United.

Blackburn are looking to strengthen their attack as both Mame Biram Diouf and Roque Santa Cruz’s loan spells at the club have finished, as well as Benjani’s contract expiring.
