Fulham Close To Signing Chelsea's Gael Kakuta On Loan - Report

Chelsea youngster Gael Kakuta is close to signing on loan with local rivals Fulham, according to The Mirror.

Fulham are believed to be favourites to take the 19-year-old, who can play on the wing or up front, until the end of the season – beating off competition from French sides Marseille, Lille and Bordeaux.

The deal is in response to the belief that it would improve the Frenchman’s development should he get a regular starting place.

Having made just one league start this season under Carlo Ancelotti at Chelsea, Kakuta has been limited to a handful of Premier League appearances from the bench and cup football.

Kakuta reaffirmed his future with the current champions after signing a deal that will keep him at the club until 2015 – it is his hunger for first team football now that has persuaded Ancelotti to sanction the temporary deal.

The former Lens player joined Chelsea four years ago and that is where he is set to stay in the long term, but fellow west Londoners Fulham are front runners to secure his services for the remainder of the season.

Fulham boss Mark Hughes is hoping the deal will go through by the end of this weekend.
