Promising Chelsea youngster Ben Gordon is set to join Scunthorpe on loan for the rest of the season after penning a new two-and-a-half-year deal at Stamford Bridge.
The full-back Gordon spent the first half of the season in Scotland with Kilmarnock.
But Scunthorpe boss Ian Baraclough has stepped in to agree a deal to take the 19-year-old until the end of the season once he recovers from a hamstring injury.
Baraclough told BBC Sport: "It was us that went to Chelsea and asked the question.
"Chelsea see we're the right club to enhance his career.
"He's a bright lad who's comfortable on the ball."
