David Beckham Being Lined Up To Become Next FA Chairman - Report

The FA are believed to be considering making David Beckham the next chairman of the organisation, following Fifa's overwhelming rejection of England's World Cup 2018 bid.

The LA Galaxy midfielder was one of the pivotal figures pursuing the failed 2018 bid, while his work in winning London's the bid to host the 2012 Olympic Games has also received much praise.

Now The News of the World claims that the FA hierarchy believe only the former Manchester United and Real Madrid star's people skills can restore the country's image within Fifa - an image that has been damaged by recent controversies.

Investigative revelations by The Sunday Times and BBC tv's 'Panorama' were seen in some quarters as the reason behind England being starved of votes in the bidding process, while some Fifa members have in the past spoken of the British media's critical stance towards Fifa.

It has also been suggested that there could be an interim chairman appointed while Beckham learns the tricks of the trade, amid talk that there are plans to groom him to become a member of Fifa's executive committee in due course.
