Arsenal Boss Arsene Wenger Admits Concern That Kieran Gibbs' Metatarsal Is Broken

Anxious times for Gunners left-back and his boss...
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is waiting anxiously for news regarding the possible state of Kieran Gibbs' metatarsal, after the left-back sustained an injury in Tuesday's League Cup win over Tottenham Hotspur.

The Gunners chief confirmed after the game that there was concern that the injury might see Gibbs ruled out for a lengthy period, just as the season is picking up momentum. Gibbs had only recently recovered from a prior metatarsal break.

"That’s the only disappointment of the night. He [Gibbs] had a very good game. We hope that we do not get bad news tomorrow morning," Wenger told reporters after the game at White Hart Lane.

"It is a metatarsal again, the one next to the one that was broken. We hope we have good news tomorrow morning [Wednesday] because that would be a massive blow to us."

One player who did impress last night, grabbing a goal in the 4-1 extra-time triumph, was Henri Lansbury. Wenger felt that the debutant acquitted himself well.

"He has not played for a long time and he is a bit like Ray Parlour - up and down, fantastic engine, good attitude," he enthused.

"He smells when you have to be in the box. He is a player who is always in there when a cross is coming in from the other side. He always scores goals."

Meanwhile, Wenger also dedicated last night's victory to Jack Chester, a figurehead for the club's work with the Teenage Cancer Trust, who succumbed to the illness earlier this month.

"I would like to dedicate this game to Jack Chester," said Wenger.

"He was a young boy who was last year the figurehead of the Teenage Cancer Trust charity, he did the press conferences with us.

"He died last Wednesday so I would like to have a thought for him tonight because he was in full power at the start, he made the full team photo with us. Unfortunately he had a resurgence of his cancer."
