Carlos Tevez: Chance To Win Trophies At Manchester City Helped Me Get My Motivation To Play Football Back

Carlos Tevez acknowledged that being handed the captain’s armband for Manchester City will help him recover from his post-World Cup malaise.

The striker confessed that he was thinking of quitting football after Argentina’s disappointing World Cup campaign in South Africa.

Despite his depression over Argentina’s exit from the World Cup, Tevez says that the chance of winning trophies with City and being named the captain of the club has rejuvenated his love for football.

“I was a bit disillusioned after the World Cup because we thought we could go further,” Tevez told The Mirror.

“I lost my motivation a little bit, but I’m delighted now because I’m at a great club with a chance to win things.

“I’m very happy to be the new captain. I must say thank-you to the manager, the players and the fans.

“As players we have only been together for the last two weeks and it’s not easy to gel together in such a short space of time.

“But we are all great players at this club and eventually I know the team will come together and be good.

“No player has his place in the side guaranteed and I must continue to work hard to keep my place.”

The Argentine, who won the European Cup with Manchester United in 2008, does not believe that the fact that City is in the Europa League this season means that they are not taking the tournament as seriously as they would the Champions League.

“All the games are important and all the competitions are really important.

“Now I hope I can win trophies with City like I did with United.”
