Manchester United Winger Ryan Giggs: Don't Write Off David Beckham's England Career

Veteran taking every year as it comes...
Manchester United winger Ryan Giggs has backed former team-mate David Beckham to fight for his England future.

Three Lions manager Fabio Capello called time on the Los Angeles Galaxy's international career this week. Despite the decision, the ex-United legend has vowed to not retire from national duty and continue to fight for his place in the squad.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Giggs insisted Beckham would give his all to play a role in the Euro 2012 qualification campaign.

He said: "This will be a massive disappointment for him as I know how much he loves playing for his country.

"As far as I'm concerned there's no-one in the world who can do what he can do and deliver pinpoint crosses, match winning free kicks and he's just an overall great play.

"It's disappointing for him but he's done this before and I'm sure he can come back a stronger player.

"Capello has said while he's manager he won't play in a competitive game but his [Beckham's] main aim at the moment is trying to get fit and playing for the Los Angeles Galaxy."

At 36 and just about to begin his 19th Premier League campaign, Giggs has shown no sign that time is creeping up on him. He argued he was just taking every season as it comes and no call had been made on when he would finally hang up his boots.

"For the last four or five years I've just been taking every year as it comes. I'm just trying to enjoy it and I've probably enjoyed my football over the last few years more than any other time in my career," the evergreen Welshman stated.

"It could be my last. You just never know.

"I'll do what I've done for the last few years and see how I feel at the end of the season.

"If I'm still fit, the manager's still picking me and I'm still enjoying it, if those three things are still happening  then I'll carry on playing."
