Manchester United striking pair Wayne Rooney and Michael Owen are expected to get their first taste of pre-season action in tonight's friendly against the Irish League XI.
The duo travelled this morning as the club prepare to play in the unveiling of the new Aviva Stadium in Dublin. For Rooney, it will be his first match since enduring a disappointing World Cup 2010 campaign.
The England international is joined by fellow returning stars from South Africa Nemanja Vidic, Ji-Sung Park and Michael Carrick. Fellow strikers Dimitar Berbatov and Javier Hernandez have also been named, while winger Antonio Valencia has recovered from ankle surgery.
Experienced trio Edwin van der Sar, Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes have been left behind after taking part in the recent North American tour.
Meanwhile, France skipper Patrice Evra has remained in Manchester after only returning to training yesterday after he was handed extra leave to recover from his nation's controversial World Cup.
