Salomon Kalou's Wages To Increase As Chelsea Stave Off Inter Interest

Chelsea are set to raise Salomon Kalou's weekly earnings in an attempt to lock down their attacking utility ahead of the club's ban from participating in the following two transfer windows - following their suspicious tactics in acquiring French youth-team talent Gael Kakuta from Lens in 2007.

It is believed that Inter coach Jose Mourinho is planning a swoop of the Ivorian, who he brought to Stamford Bridge from Feyenoord in 2006 for an estimated £3.5million. It is thought that the 'Special One' is seeking a pre-contractual arrangement for the forward that could see him cross over to the Italian champions in the following winter transfer period.

In an attempt to starve off any Serie A temptations, the Blues have reportedly tabled a new deal for the attacking utility, with talks between the club and player's representatives scheduled for next week, according to the Daily Mail.

In the wake of their FIFA-imposed punishment, Chelsea now face the grim reality of not adding to their squad until January 2011, leaving the club no choice but to lock down many of their stars reaching the end of the contracts. It could also spell an early return to Stamford Bridge for Argentine starlet Franco Di Santo, who is currently on loan to Premier League rivals Blackburn.

Despite the setback, coach Carlo Ancelotti remains optimistic that his chargers will continue to challenge for top honours given the squad's depth of experienced individuals.
