Wigan Athletic Target James McCarthy Has Also Had Medical At Wolverhampton Wanderers - Report

James McCarthy, the 18-year-old Hamilton Academical starlet who was this afternoon reportedly undergoing a medical at Premier League outfit Wigan Athletic, has seemingly already gone through the same process with the Latics' rivals for his signature, Wolverhampton Wanderers.

West Midlands newspaper The Express & Star is carrying a report this evening that claims that the Scottish-born Republic of Ireland international underwent a medical at Molineux yesterday evening, leading to confusion as to which of the two Premier League clubs now lead the race for the midfielder's signature.

Glasgow giants Celtic were also linked with making a late bid for the player, around whom there now seems to be a fierce battle developing. The Express & Star claims that Bhoys boss Tony Mowbray is still considering making an offer.

Wolves' chief executive Jez Moxey was insisting that the matter was being dealt with as carefully as possible by the Midlanders, asserting, "We are trying to handle this as sensitively as we can. James is a young lad, just 18 years old, a long way from home and having to cope with all this interest in him.

"We are showing him around and showing him what we are all about."

Quite where this leaves the player remains unclear, as it now seems that his ultimate destination is as uncertain as ever.
