Arsenal Set To Cash In On Robin Van Persie – Report

Arsenal are reportedly contemplating selling striker Robin van Persie this summer, after contract negotiations with the Dutchman broke down.

The News of the World claim that a new four-year deal was offered to the striker six months ago but is still yet to be signed by the player.

The British tabloid reports that the player’s advisers are unhappy with the deal and are also insisting a get-out clause is inserted into the contract.

However, the Gunners are believed to be unwilling to amend the deal, which has led to a stalemate between the parties.

Therefore, as van Persie only has a year left on his remaining contract, the club may be forced to sell him this summer, should he refuse to sign a new deal, rather than lose him for nothing next year.

The report also goes on to state that the club will listen to any offers for the Dutchman and would be willing to accept bids in the region of €9 million.

This would prove a decent return on a player Arsene Wenger signed for just over €3 million from Feyenoord back in 2004.

Yet, with fellow frontman Emmanuel Adebayor also rumoured to be leaving the Emirates at the end of this season, should Van Persie depart, this would leave the Gunners short of numbers in attack.

Manager Wenger has already insisted he only wants to make a couple of signings this summer. However, should his front two both leave, he may well be forced into the transfer market.
