Neuer voted Goal readers' goalkeeper of the season

The German came out on top in our poll of the best shot-stoppers from 2013-14 as part of the countdown to the Goal 50
Manuel Neuer has won Goal's poll for the best goalkeeper of the season, picking up 35 per cent of the vote ahead of next week's Goal 50 results.

The Bayern Munich star enjoyed a trophy-laden campaign, helping the Bavarian club to the domestic double before shining at the World Cup as Germany won the trophy for the first time in 24 years, with the 28-year-old keeping a clean sheet in the 1-0 final victory over Argentina.

The next most popular choice was Thibaut Courtois, whose heroics between the posts saw Atletico Madrid pip Real Madrid and Barcelona to the Liga title and come within seconds of a stunning Champions League triumph. The Belgium international, who was on loan at the Vicente Calderon from Chelsea, was backed by 28.5% of readers.

Neuer and Courtois dominated the voting and the next highest contestant was Lille's Vincent Enyeama, who kept a stunning 27 clean sheets for the French side before catching the eye with Nigeria at the World Cup. He landed 8.9% of the vote.

David De Gea was one of the few positives in Manchester United's poor season and the young Spaniard came fourth with 5.5%, just ahead of Keylor Navas, the Levante shot-stopper who shone for Costa Rica during his nation's surprising run to the quarter-finals of the World Cup.

Gianluigi Buffon leads the chasing pack after captaining Juventus to their third straight Serie A title, beating the likes of Petr Cech, Diego Lopez and Guillermo Ochoa in the voting.

See how Neuer fared in the Goal 50 when the full rankings, including the winner, are announced on July 28.
