Zamalek have announced the departure of Hassan Shehata on their official website following a recent 1-0 loss to Cairo rivals Al Ahly in 2012 Caf Champions League group play. The White Knights said that the former Pharaohs manager had presented his resignation orally during a meeting with club president Mamdouh Abbas.
This marks the second time this year that Shehata has tendered his resignation. He last stepped down following a substitution spat with star winger Shikabala during another Champions League match against Maghreb Fes. However, this time it appears unlikely that he will reconsider his decision.
Shehata took his team to the Egyptian Cup final last season but struggled to keep the team afloat as it dealt with internal problems and coped with the cancellation of the Egyptian Premier League following the Port Said incident. It is thought that Tarek Yehia is a favourite to replace him at the helm of Zamalek.
