Reigning African champions Esperance have decided to part ways with Michel Decastel after only five months on the job. The decision follows Esperance’s 2-1 loss in Sfax on Tuesday.
From the start of his tenure, the Swiss coach had the difficult task of replacing Blood and Gold legend Nabil Maaloul who had led his club to an unprecedented quadruple. Although he managed to qualify the Bab Souika outfit to the last eight of the Caf Champions League, the club’s board of directors and fans were unimpressed by the team’s performances, even though the results themselves were mostly positive.
In fact, the loss to CS Sfaxien was the only defeat that Decastel suffered during his time with the Tunisian giants. According to the club’s official website, technical director Skander Kasri and general manager Arbi Zouaoui will act as interim coaches during an eagerly anticipated clash between them and second placed CA Bizertin on Sunday.
