Former Tunisian national team coach Faouzi Benzarti is set to coach Etoile once more after accepting a four-year contract offer from the club. Benzarti’s hiring represents the third coaching change at the Sousse-based side this season as Bernd Krauss returns to his initial position of youth technical director after replacing the sacked Khaled Ben Sassi in January.
“It happened quickly. I have a great relationship with Etoile du Sahel, especially their fans. I have a good relationship with all Tunisian fans, especially Etoile’s. There was a time when Esperance was winning in Sousse and the home fans were still clapping for me,” said the coach while speaking to Mosaique FM.
Asked what his opinions were on the factors leading to the “Brigade Rouge” being 11 points off the pace being set by Tunisian league leaders CA Bizertin, Benzarti said he thought that the players were mainly suffering from a lack of fighting spirit and that some modifications were needed.
“They need some stability, a few tactical alterations, application, and rigorousness. Sometimes you can have a good player but he won’t have spirit. I need that spirit, I need players that give their all,” he explained.
