Jean-Guy Wallemme has headed Congo national team since 2011 but recently landed a new job as manager of Ligue 1 side Auxerre, raising fears in Brazzaville of the 44-year-old former defender’s probable departure from the central African team.
But the Frenchman on Friday assured he had not relinquished his engagement with Congo and would be able to combine both jobs effectively.
“By mid May I will be free from my activities in the French league and will be able to prepare the Red Devils for the qualifiers of the 2014 Fifa World Cup and 2013 Africa Cup of Nations,” Wallemme told French radio RFI.
“It is going to be a great experience for my career and I think the central African team will surely benefit from it.”
Congo will play Burkina Faso and Niger next June in the 2014 World Cup qualifying and Uganda in the 2013 Afcon preliminaries.
