Frenchman Claude Le Roy close to DR Congo coaching return

Former Ghana coach Claude Le Roy is on the verge of becoming the Democratic Republic of Congo coach after his compatriot Robert Nouzaret resigned from the post two days ago

After coaching the Leopards between 2004 and 2006, French-born Claude Le Roy is returning to the DR Congo to replace his compatriot Robert Nouzaret, who walked out on Tuesday following a head-on clash with the Democratic Republic of Congo Football Federation (Fecofa).

The Fecofa president Constant Omari confirmed to local Radio Okpai that negotiations were in progress with the 63-year-old, who touched down in the Congolese capital Kinshasa on Thursday.

A three-year contract with “substantial” objectives is being finalised between Le Roy and Fecofa, according to Omari.

The former Senegal, Cameroon, Ghana and Qatar coach was part of the Congolese delegation that left for Dakar ahead of the Leopards’ must-win clash against the Teranga Lions on Saturday.

Muntubile Santos, former Congo international and 2009 Chan champion with the local Leopards, has been named interim coach.
