Inter Milan hitman and Cameroon captain Samuel Eto’o fell out with a Cameroonian journalist at a press conference after the reporter asked a question the player never wanted to hear.
According to Senegal Press Agency, APS, Eto’o was fielding questions from journalists at a press conference held in Dakar after Cameroon’s 1-0 loss to Senegal on Saturday, when a journalist from Equinoxe TV – a Cameroonian sports channel – asked the player “Samuel, will you put an end to your international career tonight, because you have just been beaten by Senegal and Cameroon's qualification for next African Cup of Nations no longer depends on you?”
Eto’o was reported to have turned furious, intensifying his tone and gestures towards the journalist and saying “I wonder if you are a Cameroonian, and if you saw the same game we’ve just played. You are not a Cameroonian. I’ll speak to your boss at Equinoxe TV, because you do not even deserve to work for this wonderful television,” Eto’o was quoted as saying by APS.
“You don’t deserve to exist,” Eto’o was reported to have fumed at the journalist
“I'm 30, I’ve won every title I desired in my career, except the World Cup. I try to represent Africa and Cameroon as well as I can. But some journalists like you do not want the progress of Africa and Cameroon, you're always negative, try to change a little.
“When we play like we’ve just played, you have to say thank you because it has been long the Cameroon team has played like this,” Eto’o said.
Equinoxe TV sports director Éric Martial Djomo told Journal du Cameroon his reporter had done nothing wrong by asking a simple question.
“It seems we can no longer ask Samuel Eto'o questions,” Djomo regretted.
