Hamburger SV striker Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting had his transfer deal to FC Köln annulled after a fax of the final transaction arrived late at the headquarters of the DFL (Deutsche Fußball Liga) - responsible for the business operations of the German Football League Association, French paper Express said Tuesday.
The 21-year-old Cameroon international duly signed a contract with Koln, but the club was unable to finalise the approval with the DFL before the closure of the winter transfer window, the paper said.
“The DFL has informed us that the documents had not arrived on time and that the transfer was therefore not approved. They are not responsible for technical problems. We have laid a claim, but we have little hope that this might work out,” the Director General of FCK, Claus Horstmann was quoted as saying.
Choupo-Moting, who has scored two goals in 10 matches this season with Hamburger, hereby misses an opportunity to get more playing time at his proposed new club.
