French-born Liverpool reserve goalkeeper Charles Itandje has been authorised by FIFA to switch nationality and play for Cameroon, where his parents hail from, Reuters said on Tuesday.
The 28-year-old former French Ligue 1 Lens ‘keeper has played for the French U21 team, but was yet to honour any call-ups from the French senior team.
Months ago the Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot) began moves to obtain authorisation from FIFA on Itandje’s nationality switch after the player expressed his desire to play for the Indomitable Lions.
Cameroon coach Javier Clemente has included Charles Itandje on the list of 22 players summoned to partake in a training camp in France during the FIFA November 17 break.
Itandje is being hotly courted by the Cameroonians despite his limited playing time with The Reds.
