Ugandan Midfilder Tony Mawejje - I Respect MacDonald Mariga, But I'm Better Than Him

The better team will be decided tomorrow when Kenya face Uganda in Nyayo.

Ugandan midfielder Tony Mawejje, who plays for IBV in Iceland has raised the temperatures of tomorrow’s clash between Harambee Stars and Uganda Cranes, claiming that Kenyan midfielder MacDonald who plays for European champions Inter Milan is not better than him.

Mawejje was quoted by the Monitor as saying, “I respect him (Mariga) but I am not afraid of him at all,” said the IBV midfielder.

“I played against him in the U-19s in 2004 and he wasn’t an inch of a threat. To me, well, he is a great player playing for a big club. But I’m a better player.”

Mawejje was among the final 18 players that arrived in Nairobi last night, just in time to prepare for a midfield duel with Mariga.

The groin injury to Hearts (Scotland) forward David Obua has ruled him out of the game. Derrick Walulya was a surprise omission as he impressed throughout training while Robert Odongkara’s inclusion ahead of Hamza Muwonge is hugely rewarding for the talented and impressive URA goalkeeper.
