Frenchman Jean-Paul Rabier Named Madagascar Coach

Rabier has previously coached Burkinabe and Algerian club Mouloudia Alger.

Frenchman Jean-Paul Rabier has signed a two-year contract to coach Madagascar in their bid to reach the next African Nations Cup finals, the Malagasy Football Federation has announced.

Rabier has been tasked with qualifying the island nation for their first-ever African championship in 2012.

They have been drawn in the same qualifying group as World Cup finalists Nigeria, Ethiopia and Guinea.

The 55-year-old, who played at Stade Rennes and Racing Lens in his career, worked previously in African football as national coach of Burkina Faso and also spent six months with Algerian club Mouloudia Alger in 2005.
