TP Mazembe 2-0 Stade Malien: Mazembe Wins African Super Cup

The CAF Champions League winners defeated their African Confederations Cup counterparts by two goals to nil.
The Malians were always on the back foot in the encounter, and it was Mazembe who took control of the game early on.

New signing Stopira Sunzu and his Zambian compatriot Given Singuluma both scored as TP Mazembe Englebert of the Democratic Republic of Congo won the African Super Cup with a 2-0 triumph over Stade Malien on Sunday.

Last year’s African Champions League winners, enjoying home advantage, took the lead when Sunzu headed home from a corner on the quarter hour mark.

Singuluma came on as a second-half substitute to score a second 10 minutes from full time and once again show his worth to the home fans.

It was the first time either club had competed in the Super Cup. A new-look Malian team contained few of the players who helped them win last year’s African Confederation Cup.

Mazembe had a poor showing at the Club World Cup late last year as Africa's representative, losing both of their matches, but this victory will be a confidence booster for the Congolese outfit.
