KCC To Face Express FC In Ugandan Super League Opener

Traditional giants KCC FC and Express FC have been drawn in the opening fixture of the 2009-10 Ugandan Super League, which starts on September 19. It is the only game that will take place that Saturday, at Nakivubo stadium.

"We do want the season opener to have all the hype - that is why we have decided to have only one game unlike the previous seasons. And the two teams are among the most supported in the country," the Ugandan Super League Committee secretary was quoted as saying in The Monitor.

With the expulsion of Nalubaale, only 17 teams have been drawn to take part in the new league, which is yet to get a sponsor.

Express, who have just returned from a pre-season tour in Tanzania, made KCC's title challenge hard in the previous season after they held them to a barren draw in the second-leg fixture at Wankulukuku.

The first leg saw KCC come from two goals down to register a 3-2 win over Express. However, the club's new tactician Sam Simbwa says the new season is coming with new things and approach.

"I have a totally new KCC FC team. As you are aware, most of the players have been sold and I have new ones now so I can't approach them [Express] in an old style. I know how fast they are improving and I predict a tricky start," said Simbwa.

KCC have not had any pre-season tours but Express returned on Tuesday evening from Tanzania, where they lost two and won one game.
