According to infosfoot.net, Lotfi Rhim has signed a one year contract with a possibility of an extension with Etoile Sportive du Sahel yesterday. The news comes a little less than two weeks after Etoile’s official spokesman, Taoufik Gahbiche, admitted that his side were interested in appointing Rhim as manager in an interview with Mosaique FM.
The club, which finished third in the Tunisian league and
was embarrassed by bitter rivals Esperance on the last day of the season, judged
that the now jobless Gernot Rohr was not able to adapt to the mentality of the
players in the North African country and thus made the decision that they would
seek to hire a local coach instead of a foreign one.
Rhim is coming off of an impressive year during which he
lead Union Sportive de Monastir to admirable results, particularly in the Tunisian
cup where they reached the final for the first time in club history and
narrowly missed out on the title in a close match versus eventual champions
Club Sportif Sfaxien.
The newly signed coach will take over his functions on
Thursday and has been given the opportunity to select his own assistants rather
than deal with ones imposed on him as Rohr was.
