Ghana: Hearts Of Oak Extend Lead

Accra Hearts of Oak go 11 points clear at the top of the premier league in Ghana after victory over Heart of Lions.

Striker Samuel Affum was on target in the 11th minute to ensure Hearts of Oak did the double over Heart of Lions this season.

However, host team, Heart of Lions missed several chances in the opening match of the second half of the season.

Hearts have thus recorded 38 points from 16 matches, while Heart of Lion are third on the table on 25 points.

The title hopes of defending champions Asante Kotoko suffered another setback at the weekend after they went down to their sixth loss of the campaign. The Kumasi club fell 2-1 to Gamba All Blacks, with all three goals coming from the penalty spot.

Daniel Gyamfi converted from the spot in the 26th and 33rd minute before Kotoko striker Alex Asamoah reduced the margin in the 49th minute, also from the penalty spot.

Kotoko are fourth in the standings with 24 points from 16 games.

In other matches, Kessben FC beat Tema Youth 3-1, Sekondi Hasaacas stopped Chelsea 2-1 at home, while relegation-troubled AshantiGold were held to a goalless draw by Wa All Stars.

The matches between second-placed King Faisal and Real Tamale United as well as that involving Berekum Arsenals and Eleven Wise also ended goalless.
