Melbourne Victory Agree Fee With Borussia Dortmund For Mitch Langerak

The talented shot-stopper is on his way to Germany.
Melbourne Victory today announced it has come to terms with German powerhouse Borussia Dortmund, for the transfer of goalkeeper Mitch Langerak, subject to a medical approval in Germany.

The 21 year-old has been at the club since 2007 and he has transformed during that time from talented junior to first-choice shot-stopper.

Melbourne Victory Football Operations Manager Gary Cole said,  “Mitch is a gifted young player and his development has been quite incredible. He thoroughly deserves this opportunity.”

“There is no doubt we wanted to retain the services of Mitch for next season, but both the opportunity for him at a massive European Club, and the transfer deal for the club, has led to this outcome.

Cole went onto say “While it will be sad to see Mitch go, Melbourne Victory prides itself on player development and with a player of Mitch’s quality, we always felt it was only a matter of time before European teams would come knocking”.

“We wish him well for the future and are very confident he’ll make an impact in the Bundesliga.”

Langerak was thrilled that the two clubs have reached agreement, and said he was excited about the move.

“I’m absolutely thrilled and obviously really excited about the prospect of signing for one of Germany’s most successful clubs, but at the same time I’ll certainly miss all our fantastic supporters here in Melbourne” Langerak said.

“I’d like to thank Melbourne Victory for not only the opportunities they have given me, but also the faith they have shown in my ability. It’s been a steep learning curve from Day 1, but to achieve my dream of becoming the clubs first-choice keeper last season was amazing, and now to embark on this opportunity, it is another dream come true.”.
