Socceroo Carl Valeri has completed a €300,000 move from Grosseto to rival Serie B outfit Sassuolo, it has been officially announced by his former employers.
The 25 year-old spent two years at Grosseto, though he struggled for first-team football at times during the last few months and has now moved on in the lead-up to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
Speaking about the move within the context of fighting for a place in Pim Verbeek’s World Cup squad, Valeri also cited the presence of his former manager at Grosseto – Stefano Pioli – as a major advantage of joining Sassuolo.
"I know that [going to the World Cup] can only depend on me,” Valeri said, quoted by Gazzetta Di Modena. “I have to work so hard, is a goal that I want to achieve at all costs.
“I knew the coach [Pioli] from... Grosseto, I know how he works he and his staff. He’s prepared, very professional and able to involve those who play only a little.”
