'Chelsea motivated by PSG defeat'

The Blues will face the Ligue 1 side in the Champions League last-16 having lost to them at the same stage last season
Chelsea board member David Barnard says the club will be motivated by last season's Champions League defeat to PSG after being paired with them again at Monday's last-16 draw.

The Ligue 1 side beat the Blues after extra-time at the same stage last term as they got revenge for their quarter-final loss to the club in 2013/14.

Chelsea have endured a disastrous first half of the season in the league, but Barnard doesn't believe form will play a part and says his side will be desperate to make up for last season's disappointment.

"It's a knockout game and it depends on the form of those teams over the two legs so I don't think you can take league form into account," he told BT Sport.

"You saw the quality of our players in the [group stage] win over Porto last week.

"This is a team that we know very well because we played them at this stage last season and we went out on the away goals rule.

"The year before we beat them in the quarter-finals. We are used to playing PSG.

"I think revenge is a bit strong in the circumstances but the players will be motivated by that loss last year."
