Palermo Chief Maurizio Zamparini Backs Under-Fire Javier Pastore

The patron has called the supporters who booed the 20-year-old midfielder "stupid", indicating that the youngster is an exciting talent for the future...
Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini has launched a stinging attack on the Rosanero fans who heckled Argentine midfielder Javier Pastore during Sunday’s goalless draw with Genoa.

“I am very disappointed - whoever is whistling Pastore is stupid,” he told La Repubblica newspaper.

“I don’t need this kind of fan. Pastore is a 20-year-old lad who needs help to settle in. He has been doing everything he has been asked to do so far.

“What do they want with him? It’s obvious that he still makes mistakes. It is down to his age and to the fact he is still adapting to [coach Walter] Zenga’s tactics and to the Italian league.

“Pastore can still improve. He is the future of Palermo. Perhaps the fans would like him to settle games single-handedly. Whoever thinks that should still have in their eyes his brilliant assists in the game with Juventus.”

Pastore turned in a fantastic performance against the Old Lady last month, when Palermo triumphed 2-0 at the Barbera.

The Sicilians paid a reported fee of €8 million to sign the highly-rated Argentine from Huracan last summer.
