Rafa Laughs At Quit Reports

Recent reports had suggested that the Spaniard was on the verge of quitting Anfield after having been thwarted in his attempts to sign Aston Villa’s Gareth Barry.

Benitez, who has enjoyed a rocky relationship with the club’s American owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks so far, is apparently frustrated by their refusal to fund the transfer.

Yet according to the club’s official website, Benitez has now pledged his future to the Anfield club. He said: “I am not thinking of leaving. My commitment with the club, the fans and the players is so big that just because I can be disappointed about different things, I won't stop trying my best to achieve all of the targets that we have established as a team.”

The Liverpool boss also spoke of his gratitude to the club and admitted he was determined to enjoy a successful season. Benitez revealed: “My family and myself are very thankful to the club, the fans and the city and we will never give up fighting to get the best for Liverpool.”

Liverpool open their Premier League campaign later today with a trip to the Stadium of Light to face Roy Keane’s Sunderland.
