The Brazilian youngster could be set to spend his first year in Europe on loan with Ajax, but he has signed a five-year deal at Camp Nou and is relishing his big move.
Having planned to continue his football education in Brazil for slightly longer, Henrique explained that once Barça's interest became concrete he was left with no choice.
"To sign for Barcelona is something different, is it the highest thing that any player can aspire to. For me it is a dream," Sport quote him saying.
"When a proposal comes like this, it is impossible to reject it. I have been doing well with Palmeiras and my plan was to stay longer, but Barcelona is one of the best clubs in the world.
"This is a unique opportunity that only occurs once in your life, therefore I did not think twice about it. My intention was to one day leave for one of the great European clubs."
Henrique will fly to Barcelona on Tuesday to undergo a medical and put pen-to-paper on his contract to become the Blaugrana's fifth new signing of the summer after Dani Alves, Martín Cáceres, Gerard Piqué and Seydou Keita.
At 21, Henrique is adamant that he is not moving for the financial side because he states that if that had been his motive other options were also open.
"If money had interest me that much then I would have gone to Shakhtar before now," he explained. "They really wanted me in Holland, but I really wanted to go to Barça."
