ARSENAL
Fabianski: 6.0 – A great stop denied Geovanni from making it 2-0 from a free-kick. However, he missed his punch from a Halmosi free-kick and was grateful that Zayatte could only head over the bar.
Sagna: 6.5 - Came forward increasingly but Arsenal’s greater threat came from the opposite flank.
Gallas: 7.0 - A few clumsy moments at the back but was in the right place at the right time to head home the winner.
Djourou: 5.0 - A little unfortunate with the goal but in truth he took his eye off Barmby and ought to have been a lot closer to him. Looked increasingly shaky after that.
Gibbs: 7.0 - Good shot at Myhill late on and linked increasingly well with Arshavin in another impressive display.
Walcott: 5.0 – Not short of effort and his pace certainly caused problems but his touch and delivery were poor and he looked rusty.
Song: 6.0 - Started very sloppily indeed and missed a great chance to equalise just after the break with a shot that was just wide before departing early.
Diaby: 6.5 – Almost scored with a powerful header that flew just wide, improved in the second half.
Vela: 6.0 – Couldn’t get into the game and had few sights of goal.
Arshavin: 7.5 - Looked the most likely source of a goal for Arsenal. Plenty of tricks and an eye for a shot but denied by some superb Hull defending. Set up the goal with a cute pass to Van Perise.
Van Persie: 8.0 - Hit the bar, had one cleared off the line and forced Myhill into a great save from a curling free kick before finally getting his goal.
Substitutes
Bendtner: 7.0 - His strength and persistence set up the equaliser but he ought to have hit the winner with two great chances.
Nasri: 6.5 - Helped add purpose and poise to Arsenal’s attack.
Eboue: 6.5 - Came on and almost scored with a rising shot.
HULL CITY
Myhill: 6.5 – Hot and cold. Great saves from Van Persie and Bendtner but poor punching put his side under pressure and contributed towards conceding the second goal.
Ricketts: 7.5 – Really strong, vital blocks and did particularly well to deny Arshavin just before the break, throwing his entire body in the way.
Gardner: 7.0 – Very strong, kept Arsenal at bay and a committed performance
Zayatte: 7.5 - Headed onto the roof of the net and made some great challenges, particularly to deny Walcott in the first half.
Dawson: 8.0 - Played Walcott really well and it was his ball that set up Barmby for the goal. Countless strong blocks and also cleared Van Persie’s header off the line.
Ashbee: 7.0 – Dependable, picked up all the loose balls and he was sorely missed in the second half after going off injured at the break.
Barmby: 7.5 - A little fortunate with the goal but put himself in a good position and wasn’t afraid to shoot. Might have had two, but was ruled just offside. Worked hard throughout and a superb challenge denied Arshavin a clear shot on goal.
Geovanni: 6.5 – Almost scored at the Emirates with another free-kick which really tested Fabianski.
Fagan: 6.5 – Kept running into channels to give Hull options and worked extremely hard to provide an outlet.
Manucho: 6.0 - Had a great chance in the opening minutes but dawdled and although he worked hard saw little of the ball.
Halmosi: 6.5 – Made a nuisance of himself with some telling contributions. One very strong run ended in a free kick which Geovanni almost scored from and a super free-kick saw Zayatte head just over.
Substitutes:
Hughes: 6.0 - Arrived after the break for Ashbee but did not have the same influence on the side.
Mendy: n/a
France: n/a
