Everton have completed the signing of midfielder Royston Drenthe on a season-long loan from Real Madrid.

The 24-year-old has penned a deal until the end of the 2011-12 with the Premier League outfit, who have acquired a midfield reinforcement after the departure of Mikel Arteta to Arsenal.

Drenthe spent last season on loan at Hercules, where despite enjoying a fruitful spell initially with the then-newly-promoted outfit, he saw his move turn sour after a dispute over unpaid wages as the club were relegated from La Liga.

He becomes Everton's second deadline-day swoop after the earlier signing of Argentine hitman Denis Stracqualursi from Tigre.
