European Golden Shoe Weekly Update: Spartak Moscow Striker Welliton Finishes The Season In Style

Despite his absence in Hannover's 3-0 home win over Freiburg at the weekend due to injury, Norwegian attacker Mohammed Abdellaoue still sits atop the table in this year's European Golden Shoe award with 30.5 points.

His biggest rival, Real Madrid attacker Cristiano Ronaldo, put in a disappointing performance in his side's 5-0 loss against Barcelona and failed to find the net. Elsewhere, Scottish striker Kenny Miller didn't play with Rangers due to the inclement weather in Scotland.

This gave Spartak Moscow striker Welliton the chance to reclaim second spot in the rankings. The Brazilian forward netted once to help Spartak to a 1-1 away draw against rivals Dinamo Moscow in the last league match of the season. He has now scored 19 goals.

Barcelona star Lionel Messi put in a brilliant performance against Real Madrid at the weekend, but didn't add his name to the scoresheet. The Argentina international remains the number five in the race for the ESM Golden Shoe.

The biggest winner of the weekend was obviously Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov. The Bulgarian forward scored five goals to help United to a 7-1 win over Blackburn Rovers and entered the top 10.
