The attacking midfielder would have been available on a free in the summer but the Cologne club opted to pay a fee to Beitar Jerusalem in order to secure his services immediately. Although the amount exchanged was not disclosed, the Israeli club were reported to be demanding €600,000 for the 25-year-old.
According to 1. FC Köln's official website, Boateng has put pen-to-paper on a deal lasting until June 2013 and has chosen the squad number 26.
The ex Panathinaikos star wil be looking to make an immediate impression in training in the hopes of securing a starting berth for their first fixture of 2009 at home to VfL Wolfsburg on January 31.
