The Uruguay-born boss says his team have "not won anything" in finishing third and reveals that the real goal is World Cup qualificationPeru coach Sergio Markarian says he was impressed by his team's complete performance against Venezuela in the Copa America on Saturday.
Markarian's side marched on to a comprehensive 4-1 victory, thanks to a Paolo Guerrero hat-trick, to finish third in the premier South American competition.
"[This was] the most intelligent game of all games," Markarian said in the post-match press conference. "I thank my players for the way they behaved and played. I also thank the Peruvian crowd that accompanied the team so well."
The Uruguay-born coach also remarked on the star performance of Hamburg striker Guerrero, who scored thrice in the win.
"We're happy with what he did, the attack would be weaker without him," Markarian enthused.
However, Markarian added that by finishing third in the Copa America Peru "have not won anything", and explained that the main goal for them now is to secure a place at the 2014 Brazil World Cup finals.
