Mexican heavyweights Club America are only a step away from signing Daniel Montenegro from Argentine outfit Independiente.
According to Televisa Deportes, Rolfi Montenegro and Brazilian midfielder Rosinei from Internacional of Porto Alegre, are "a step away from being contracted by Las Aguilas del America."
The president of Independiente, Julio Comparada, confirmed the transfer to Mexican newspaper Record.
"It has been done and tomorrow it will become official," Comparada declared to the local press.
Comparada didn't reveal the fee paid by the Mexican giants for the explosive attacking midfielder of the Argentine national team, but he said that it was for a large sum.
"I already said it before, for a hotdog and for a coke I wouldn't have sold him. Rolfi is very important for Independiente, and he wasn't going to leave for peanuts. They wanted him and they paid up."
Much is expected of Montenegro at Club America. Las Aguilas haven't qualified for the Mexican Liguilla in the last three seasons, and will be hoping to improve on their performance.
