Santos' Elano will be match fit very soon - club doctor

The medical staff at the Brazilian club have eased fears over the midfielder's injury and he is most likely to return after the game against Atletico GO
Santos' Elano ankle injury is not very serious and he should be back quite soon, according to the club's doctor.

The ex-Manchester City man suffered the affliction in the 75th minute of a match against Corinthians. The circumstances were unknown at the time, as he collapsed on the pitch without any contact with an opposition player.

Elano was already due to miss today's encounter with Atletico GO due to a suspension, after accumulating three bookings so far in the Brasileirao. Team medic Mauricio Zenaide was confident that the Brazil international's absence would not be long-term.

Zenaide calmed anxiety over his patient's injury and believes he faces only a brief period being sidelined.

''It was only a sprained ankle, it was nothing serious,'' the doctor told Santos' official website.

The match was 0-0 when the 30-year-old was stretchered off the pitch, which remained goalless as the Copa Libertadores winners were held by Adenor Bacchi's men.
