Samuel Eto'o claims more star players are keen to join Anzhi Makhachkala

The former Inter striker was criticised over his lucrative switch to Russia but he insists that more stellar names are likely to follow in his footsteps
Samuel Eto’o has insinuated that a number of top players are interested in joining him at Anzhi Makhachkala.

The 30-year-old made headlines this summer when he decided to leave Serie A giants Inter in order to make the move to Russia.

Many pundits accused Eto’o of being solely motivated by the huge money on offer but he insists that he was drawn to Anzhi by the challenge of trying to establish the club as one of the strongest in Europe.

"It was time for me to bring back [that sense of] adventure,” the Cameroon international said of his decision to quit Inter during an interview with France Football.

“I needed to make a 90 degree turn to revive those feelings I had as a kid [playing football], like when I was at Mallorca and I charged head first into a new challenge. Let me dream!

"The goal will be to gradually bring a more rigorous professionalism and consistency to the club. Inevitably, we will need great players to get there. But not just any.

“There are many [players] who call me. You'd be surprised by their names."

Eto'o won two Champions League titles during his time with Barcelona, and another with Inter before leaving San Siro in August to join Anzhi.
