Zenit St Petersburg coach Luciano Spalletti has said that Genoa defender Domenico Criscito could be a player the Russian club are interested in.
His message follows Napoli's reluctance to take the 24-year-old Italian defender on a co-ownership deal for €6 million.
An agreement for Criscito to Napoli was established by both Italian clubs, but president Aurelio De Laurentiis said he was no longer keen on Thursday - casting doubt over their plans, and leaving both Genoa and the player open to discussions.
Inter and Paris Saint-Germain were also linked with the Italy international, and the Russian champions may now enter the race.
"I can tell you that Zenit are looking to strengthen the squad, as we have already said before. Criscito may be one of our targets," Spalletti told RIA Novosti.
Sport-Express previously claimed Andrea D'Amico, the player's agent, was in Russia recently to hold dialogue with the club over a transfer there.
