Andrei Ivanov has completed his move from Spartak Moscow to local rivals Lokomotiv after the 22-year-old defender signed a three-and-a-half-year deal.

Full-back Ivanov joined the Railwaymen on their pre-season camp in Turkey with the hope that his move for regular football will help him to cement a place in the national team ready for the 2018 World Cup.

"I had a desire to move, I just decided for myself that my career has come to a new phase. Although leaving wasn't easy, I have been at Spartak for many years and I will take this opportunity to thank my former club for what they have helped me achieve; also for making this transition between clubs as smooth as possible," Ivanov explained to Championat.ru.

"I agree that Spartak might have more fans but the level in Lokomotiv is still high. They are constructing a new team with a new coach and we will fight for higher ground in the league and bigger and better in Europe. As Spartak look to do the same next season it will be difficult to gain a foothold and play on a regular basis. At 'Loko' I hope to be become a major part of this team and also for Russia.

"My decision was influenced by the words of coach Yuri Krasnozhan, Valery Karpin and the family at Spartak were understanding and we left on good terms. My memories will of course remain but a football player should always strive to improve and on the bench I won't do that.

"Fan reactions I will try not to pay attention to if they are negative. Maybe they will inspire me," Ivanov concluded.
