Fellaini ruled out of Belgium's friendlies

The Manchester United midfielder will miss his nation's upcoming ties against European giants Italy and Spain after pulling out of Marc Wilmots' squad with injury

The Royal Belgian Football Association (KBVB) have confirmed midfielder Marouane Fellaini will miss Belgium's friendlies against Italy and Spain due to injury.

Fellaini was absent for Manchester United's 2-0 Premier League win over West Brom on Saturday after suffering an unspecified problem in training the day before.

Belgium's football governing body have now confirmed the towering 27-year-old will sit out his nation's home games against Italy and Spain, as Marc Wilmots' men aim to cement their new position at the head of Fifa's world rankings.

Oostende defender Jordan Lukaku has also been withdrawn due to the injury.

The pair have been replaced by Everton forward Kevin Mirallas and Gent midfielder Sven Kums.
