Bernd Schuster has resigned from his post as the coach of Turkish giants Besiktas. The Istanbul giants have confirmed the German coach's departure with immediate effect on their official website.
Speculation in the Turkish media claimed that Schuster had quit on Monday night, and he said his farewells to the players on Tuesday.
The news comes in the wake of the Black Eagles having a disappointing season in the Turkish Super Lig, currently stranded in seventh place in the table with just 36 points from 25 matches.
Schuster, who won the Spanish Primera Division title with Real Madrid in 2007-08, was appointed the coach of Besiktas in June 2010 and made a number of major signings, including Ricardo Quaresma, Guti, Hugo Almeida and Simao.
Besiktas have announced that Schuster's assistant Tayfur Havutcu will be in charge of the first team until the end of this season.
