Fenerbahce have announced the appointment of Aykut Kocaman as the club's new manager.
A statement on the club's official website reads:
“Fenerbahce are pleased to announce the appointment of the legendary Aykut Kocaman as the football team's new manager and coach. The signing ceremony is to take place on Tuesday in Kadikoy.”
The retired footballer will take over from Christoph Daum, who has parted with Fenerbahce by mutual consent just one year into his second stint at the club after finishing behind Bursaspor in the Turkish league.
Kocaman, who donned Fenerbahce's colours from 1988 to 1996, netting over 100 goals, had been the club's sporting director for the past year and will now move on to guide the squad.
This represents Kocaman's fifth coaching challenge in his career, after previous jobs at Istanbulspor, Malatyaspor, Konyaspor and Ankaraspor.
Fenerbahce did not confirm the compensation package offered to Daum, who had guided the club to two league titles in his first stint, but reports estimate it to be in the region of €2.3 million.
