Ajax make improved €3 million offer for NEC's Jasper Cillessen - report

Reigning Dutch champions Ajax haven't given up hope of signing NEC goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen just yet as they have made an improved offer of €3 million for the shot-stopper, Het Parool reports.

The Amsterdam giants are in the market for a new glovesman because of the departure of Maarten Stekelenburg to Roma earlier this summer and hav earmarked Cillessen as the perfect replacement.

Ajax's first bid of €1.7m for the 22-year-old was swiftly rejected by NEC and they consequently turned their attention to VVV's Dennis Gentenaar. However, the Limburg side are reluctant to let go of the veteran goalkeeper, prompting Ajax to return for Cillessen.

The shot-stopper, who was called up for the Netherlands' national side for their friendlies against Brazil and Uruguay in June, has a contract with NEC until the summer of 2014.

NEC have yet to respond to Ajax's second bid, but it is doubtful they will accept the offer as it is believed they are holding out for €4m.
