PSV closing in on AZ's Stijn Schaars - report

Netherlands international Stijn Schaars appears to be on his way out of Eredivisie side AZ as fellow Dutch side PSV are close to agreeing terms for the transfer of the midfielder, Algemeen Dagblad reports.

The Eindhoven outfit are keen to add some fresh blood to their midfield ahead of the 2011-12 campaign, and have made the capture of the 27-year-old one of their primary objectives.

Schaars' current contract with AZ runs until the summer of 2012 and the 2008-09 Eredivisie champions are keen to cash in on him before he can leave for nothing under the Bosman ruling.

The former Vitesse star has yet to reach an agreement with PSV, but revealed in May that he was honoured by the interest of the Eindhoven side, and no problems are expected in agreeing personal terms.

Schaars is currently on international duty with Netherlands in South America, and returns to Alkmaar after the friendly against Uruguay next week.

The imminent arrival of Schaars is likely to mean the end of Orlando Engelaar's spell at PSV. The towering midfielder is reportedly no longer needed at Philips Stadium and the club are eager to move him on this summer.
