Utrecht part company with head coach Ton du Chatinier

Eredivisie outfit Utrecht have decided to part company with head coach Ton du Chatinier with immediate effect following the club's disappointing performances in the 2010-11 campaign.

The Domstedelingen had set their sights on qualifying for European football again and appeared to be on the right track halfway through the season. But they collapsed after the winter break and eventually finished ninth in the table to miss out on the end-of-season play-offs.

"Ton accepted the position as head coach two years ago in very difficult circumstances and deserves a lot of respect for that. It's a shame that our collaboration comes to an end like this, but we did not see any foundation to continue working together," said sporting director Foeke Booy on the club's official website.

Du Chatinier took over as Utrecht coach in October 2008 and guided them to Europa League football last term. However, Utrecht failed to live up to the expectations this term, despite the presence of stars like Michel Vorm, Dries Mertens and Ricky van Wolfswinkel.

Former Feyenoord coach Erwin Koeman is believed to be sitting in pole position to replace Du Chatinier.
