The 22-year-old has already reached an agreement to join Walter Mazzarri’s side for next season and reports in the Italian media suggest that a formal deal will be struck in the coming days.
The Slovenia international himself is enthusiastic to wear the shirt of Argentine legend Diego Armando Maradona’s former club and is quoted by Goal.com Italy as saying: “Next week there will be a meeting to complete my move to Napoli. I cannot wait to play for the Azzurri and with Cavani.”
Matavz added: “I keep myself infomed about the city [of Naples] and the team. I am really happy for their good performance in the league this season.”
Napoli were close to landing the highly rated attacker in January but failed to reach an agreement with Groningen. The Slovenian international joined the Dutch club from Gorica in the summer of 2007 and has developed into a key player over the last couple of seasons.
